INFORMATION
The ADH stock was developed from the BW stock of Peromyscus maniculatus
by M.R. Felder about 1973 at the University of South Carolina. The BW stock
was polymorphic for two Adh variants, "null" and "fast". These are described
in papers by Felder and his colleagues (1973. In: Markert, CL (ed) Isozymes
3:455-471; 1978. Biochem. Genet. 16:443-445, 1093-1106). We maintain lines
which are homozygous for the two alleles Adho (null)
and Adhf (fast). We subsequently showed that Adh is linked
to Amy (salivary amylase) in Peromyscus (1983. Biochem. Genet. 21:1101).
The ADH stocks are like the BW stocks in all respects except that the
Adh genotypes have been selected for, and, therefore, may be somewhat more
inbred.
